"95 points. Deeply coloured crimson-purple, it is redolent of McLaren Vale with layers of black fruits, choc-mint and ripe tannins, the oak important for texture, not flavour. All up, a thoroughly impressive wine at this price." James Halliday
The Lioness of McLaren Vale is produced from a single vineyard in the foothills of McLaren Vale.
The nose has impressive purity of fruit showing lush scents of summer pudding with lifted re fruits, berries and a hint of cinanamon. The palate is generous and mouthfilling with sweet blackberry, raspberry and plum flavours with uindercurrents of mulberries and chocolate.
Some years Mclaren Vale is the best wine region in Australia and other years it is not. In my view this very drinkable wine is not from a 5* year for McClaren Vale and so I would suggest that if you have not bought either their Barossa or McClaren Vale you try the 2017 Barossa version in the first place. None-the-less I guess that many would enjoy this wine so your choice.
