This brilliant Shiraz marries the classic richness of Joe's McMurtrie Rd vineyard in the heart of McLaren Vale with the perfume and mineral texture of the Shiraz growing in the shale stone of Joe's higher altitude Clarendon vineyard, which brings balance and depth to the layered fruit and spice. This is a wine that is both rich and savoury with a long, silky finish - fabulous now or stick it in the cellar for 8+ years.
A great example of a much more subtle, cool climate style shiraz that has a smooth, mellow, subtle but nevertheless full lingering flavours.Every bit as deserving of the reputation it has.
We are fans of the Primo estate in any case but just love this wine and great to get it at an offer price, never disappoints - deep red, fruity with the slightest hint of dryness, great with Italian food or on its own
From the moment you open the bottle it gives of a lovely perfumed aroma and once tasted you can tell it has a full bodied flavour with much character. Definitely no washed out shrinking violet. Well worth a try. This review would equally apply to the Primo Il Briccone 2018 with the added advantage that the Il Briccone is somewhat cheaper. This is my view of these current 2018 Primo wines. Why don't you try them both and see what you think. They certainly won't disappoint.
Decanted for two hours & produced smooth tasting wine with overtones of red berries/cherries. Shared with neighbours who voted it the best wine of the night.(Social distancing observed!)
