Joe rates the fruit which came off his Angel Gully Vineyard (the source of the Shiraz component in this wine) as some of the best fruit that he has seen. A blend of 85% Shiraz and 15% Sangiovese, this is a full bodied red with plum, pepper and spice characters. The Sangiovese gives a burst of refreshing cherry fruit and a savoury finish. Spicy and elegant it is a stunning wine that will improve in the bottle for at least 5 years.
Lovely Aussie red which is a perfect wine to go with food. Joe Grillo is a really talented winemaker who never fails to hit the spot. A great value wine.
Made by Primo Estate so it is a pretty safe bet before you even open the bottle. The only downside is its price which I feel is a bit on the high side. Still a great drink though.
We first tasted that fabulous wine on a visit to the Primo Estate when we were on holidays in South Australia in 2018. Immediately attracted to that beautifull wine. Delighted to discover that we can now order it online back home in Scotland thanks to the Australian Wine Centre. That's our Christmas dinner wine sorted. Briliant.

We discovered this wine at an Italian restaurant in St Kilda a few years ago, we could not find this wine or this blend on return to the UK and resolved to visit the winery on a future trip.
We did this 3 years ago now and love nearly all the Primo range, we had a very personal tasting but no Il Briccone left at our visit! The lovely Judy at Primo then informed us about their agent in the UK - the Australian Wine Centre, so we came home and immediately ordered some. We have not been out of stock since.
I’m no expert but I would describe this as a bold ‘in your face’ kind of red but with lots of lush fruit and light on the tannins. It’s our go to red wine if we’re undecided of an evening and pairs beautifully with all Italian food.
We also love the Primo Shale Stone as a stand alone Shiraz and the Virginia Vineyards is a great value red as well.
