The Primo Estate Virginia Vineyards tradition began back in the early 1980's when Joe Grilli wanted to give his regular customers the opportunity to drink delicious wine at an affordable price. He sourced fruit off his vineyards at Virginia, just to the north of Adelaide and produced a wine that really punches above its weight.
Down the years, he as augmented the Virginia fruit with grapes from his McLaren Vale vineyards, together with some from selected local growers. The abundant sunshine and afternoon sea breezes coming off the nearby ocean at St. Vincent’s Gulf enable the fruit to ripen gradually and to retain their wonderful flavours.
The 2020 Virginia Vineyards is a proven blend of Shiraz (61%), Cabernet Sauvignon(32%) and Merlot(7%), the style is harmonious and mouth filling. Following blending, the wine was aged in older American and French oak barrels to marry the components and impart a mellow, lingering oak character.
