"There's a genuine honesty to this wine. No affectations: it's all about pure shiraz in its plum-fruit expression with neatly teased spice – a touch peppery – that gives lift and energy to the fleshy palate. Older-oak maturation over 12 months has added backbone, too. The sweet varietal fruit is more than celebrated, in an everyday manner that still has a note of tannin definition and finish. Excellent value." James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion

The Heartland story began in the late 1990’s when he became excited about the outstanding quality of fruit being grown in one of South Australia’s lesser-known regions, Langhorne Creek. Ben’s uncle, John Glaetzer, was winemaker at Wolf Blass Wines for some 30 years, winning Australia’s top wine award, the Jimmy Watson trophy no less than 3 times, with wines based on Langhorne Creek fruit.

John still has many contacts with vineyard owners in the area and Ben has built on these connections to source some outstanding parcels of old vine material for Heartland Wines.

The wine is a dense midnight black colour with a dark purple black tinged hue. Aromas of fresh dark plum, red liquorice and dark cherries overlay spicy vanillin cedar and mint. Medium to full in body, flavours of ripe plum and red liquorice subtlety laced with mint have an undercurrent of earth, spicy vanillin cedar and pepper. The finish features fine grained tannins with a juicy medium length aftertaste.
