The February 2021 Super 12 Dozen
Three bottles each of:
2017 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Shiraz
The alluring 'fruit cake' juiciness of Shiraz is ever present in this wine. It aids this wine helping with extra depth and structure on the palate complimenting the luscious round fruit flavours naturally abundant in Shiraz. The meshing together of the focused American oak tannins, support the abundant layers of dark fruit and chocolate flavours on the palate.
2017 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
Vibrant lifted cassis Cabernet Sauvignon aromas are abundant in the glass. A well structured medium bodied wine. Fine French oak tannins give length and structure, whilst the smooth blackberry fruit traits add to the wine's palate complexity. A lovely elegant Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon.
2016 Willows Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon
The Willow's Cabernet vines are planted near to the banks of the North Para River, dotted by gum trees, as it winds it way through the Scholz vineyards. So, it is no surprise to find eucalyptus aromas along with the more classic Cabernet characters on the nose with this wine.
2014 Tim Adams Schaefer Shiraz
The Schaefer Shiraz was crafted from specially selected grapes produced on a single vineyard originally planted in the 1960s. Twenty four months in new French oak provides perfume, spice and balance to the wine, which is dominated by aromas and flavours of dark red cherries, plums and red berries.
If you haven't subscribed or upgraded to the Super12 wine plan, I urge you to do it. It's a class above the Wizards. Having said that, I subscribe to both. Perfect.
I find this a great small scale specialist wine retailer run by people who are great to deal with - I would almost say nicer than their wines which in many ways once you have tasted their wines might be difficult to believe but you will find out if you give their wines a try. Give their quarterly Super 12 wines a go and do try their Eldredge wines if you want a single producer recommendation. Aussie wines aren't the most expensive on the planet but probable £ for £ are the best value..
We are regular recipients of these Super Red boxes and can confirm that this is indeed what they are! Always a good selection and occasionally a wine that we would not have selected ourselves from a wine list. They never send the same wine twice and in over a year of receiving the boxes, there was only ever one that was not to our taste, this was refunded without question. We hope to carry on with our delightful deliveries for many years to come
