Four Gold Medals
“There is a lot to like here with a distinctly contemporary take on a classic Barossa style that centres around fruit purity and pure drinkability. Super-ripe black cherry, blackberry and satsuma plum fruits, an array of spice, purple florals, licorice and kirsch tones, superfine sandy tannins and bright cadence, despite the opulence of the fruit. Pretty impressive stuff at this pricepoint.” James Halliday’s Australin Wine Companion
This wonderful Barossa red is produced from vineyards that are around 100 years old, yet can be yours for under £15 per bottle!
The Lionheart is produced from a selection of ancient, gnarled vines, some approaching and many over a hundred years of age, that not only survive but thrive on their own roots in some of the oldest soils on the planet.
These vineyards were for many years owned and tended by the Lindner family, especially Barossa ‘s lifelong champion of old vines, the late Carl Lindner. His vineyards supplied much of the grapes for St. Hallett wines in the 1980s and 1990s, including the iconic Old Block Shiraz.
Dandelion Vineyards "Lionheart of the Barossa" Shiraz 2021 14.5% 6x75cl £89.00
Another great red from the outstanding 2021 vintage.
Magnificent depth of colour featuring a super saturated inky black core and an equally deep dark purple hue. Soaring out of the glass are lavish aromas of dark plum, liquorice and ripe blackberry, which are trailed by vanillin oak, mocha, hints of earth and spice.
Bold, rich and concentrated, the palate is awash with opulently textured blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits, which meld into a backdrop of toasty vanillin oak, earthy dark chocolate and spice.
Excellent depth and power with velvet smooth tannins and a long plush finish that’s trademark Barossa. Drink and enjoy it over the next decade.
