Sons of Eden Zepyrus Shiraz 2021

A gorgeously textured, powerful and richly fruited wine, which is a textbook example of the modern style of Barossa Shiraz.

“95 pts. The 2021 Zephyrus Shiraz is a brilliant wine. Luscious tannins frame a bounty of black and purple fruit in the mouth, peppering it with coal dust/graphite/black tea and black olive tapenade. It’s a really good, structural, balanced, spicy, exciting Shiraz. It is polished but earthy, too, really well handled.” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (Erin Larkin)

“Gold Medal, 95 pts. Lovely lifted brambles and raspberries, with notes of black pepper and cinnamon, lovely nuances of mint and violets. Fresh and lively, with ripe tannins.” Decanter World Wine Awards 2023

Sons of Eden is a partnership between winemaker Corey Ryan, winemaker at Eden Valley icon, Henschke, for over 10 years and viticulturist Simon Cowham who both learnt their trades in the vineyards and cellars of Eden Valley. They have been named the Most Successful Exhibitor at the Barossa Wine Show no less than three times in the last 5 years

The name of this wine is taken from Zephyrus, the Greek god of the west wind who is often depicted as a horse. The vineyards of the Barossa are regularly buffeted by cooling Westerly winds which create an ideal temperature range in which to slowly ripen Shiraz.

The 2021 vintage in the Barossa Valley was a brilliant one, possibly the best since ????. There were mild conditions of generally below-average temperatures for the entire growing season. This made for an elegant and classic vintage, with reds showing great density of colour and flavour.

The 2021 Zephyrus is a blend of 10 different Shiraz parcels located throughout a wide range of vineyard sites within the cooler climate Eden Valley (46%) and warmer Barossa Valley (54%) regions. The vines are aged between 25-60 years old.

"A beautifully wrought and detailed palate, so supple it literally glides through to the finish and aftertaste without even a momentary pause for thought. Will live for decades, but can also be consumed tonight" - James Halliday

A gorgeously textured, powerful and richly fruited wine, which is a textbook example of the modern style of Barossa Shiraz.

It has a magnificent colour featuring a saturated inky black heart along with a very deep dark red black hue. Engulfing the nostrils are potent aromas of dark plum, liquorice and blackberry infused with fennel followed by hints of blueberry, subtle smoky cedar and peppered meat notes.

The palate is rich, concentrated and gorgeously textured, awash in opulent dark plum, liquorice, blackberry and ripe blueberry fruits. Notions of spicy vanillin cedar, fennel and peppered dried herb characters are in the background.

Outstanding power, volume and depth with seamlessly integrated cashmere like tannins. It finishes long, sumptuous and plush. Drink tonight or over the decade or more.
